Wrestling with online subscriptions, databases, and e-journals? The ACRL e-learning course, "Electronic Collection Development for the Academic E-Library," will help you create an academic e-library collection development plan for free and fee-based Web-accessible resources for a patron community of your choice. Your collection plan will be developed in five parts. Each part includes lecture, discussion, and hands-on activities that will walk you through creating or assessing a collection plan for developing an e-library collection.

This ACRL online seminar is taught by Diane Kovacs, the co-author of The Kovacs Guide to Electronic Library Collection Development: Essential Core Subject Collections, Selection Criteria, and Guidelines (Neal-Schuman, January 2004), and takes place from November 5-24, 2007.  The deadline to register for this course is Monday, October 29.

"Electronic Collection Development for the Academic E-Library" is a primarily asynchronous seminar, allowing participants to work through course material at times convenient to them throughout the week. Participants may also choose to schedule chat time with one another or with the instructor, as they feel necessary. Specific material and activities are expected to be covered during each week of the course. Threaded discussion forums will be available for use in activities and other course-related conversations.

More information on the course, including registration information, is available by visiting http://www.ala.org/ala/acrl/acrlproftools/ecolldev.cfm.  Submit your registration by Monday, October 29!  Questions?  Contact msutton@ala.org.
